Are You Ready for Warm Weather?

With warm weather just around the corner, it's time to get ready for shorts, skirts, and swimsuits! This month, we will discuss treatments for three common patient concerns: cherry angiomas, spider veins, and loose skin.

Cherry Angiomas
Many of us are plagued by cherry angiomas, the little red freckle-like spots that proliferate as we age. These lesions typically start as small, flat, round spots and can grow in diameter and thickness over time. They are almost always harmless and benign, but most patients find them a cosmetic concern. Fortunately, we have an affordable, comfortable and easy way to remove them! The Vbeam® laser targets reds and purples in the skin and successfully treats most cherry angiomas with a single treatment. Repeat treatments will likely be necessary over the years as new cherry angiomas pop up. The Vbeam® is also excellent for treating small broken capillaries and generalized redness caused by rosacea. Treatment of cherry angiomas ranges from $75-$175. Other treatments with the Vbeam range from $150-$500.

Sclerotherapy for Spider Veins
Spider veins are a very common complaint among women, who are four times more likely to develop them than men. If you have been hiding under long skirts and pants, you may want to consider sclerotherapy. This simple procedure involves injecting saline solution into the damaged vein, which causes the vein to collapse. Spider veins are caused by valve dysfunction in our blood vessels, sitting or standing for long periods of time, and hormonal effects that weaken blood vessel walls such as during pregnancy. Multiple treatments are needed over time as new spider veins occur.

Tighten Loose, Sagging Skin with Thermage®
As we age, the collagen in our skin breaks down and the fibers become weaker and disorganized. Skin loses its tensile strength and starts to sag. Sun exposure and tanning accelerate this process (in addition to causing dark sun spots and increasing your risk for skin cancer). Thermage® can correct some of the collagen breakdown. It uses radiofrequency to heat up the dermal layer of the skin, where collagen and elastin are produced, stimulating the cells to make a denser, stronger, tighter collagen network.

One of the most popular areas for Thermage® is the jaw line and "turkey neck." However, any part of the body can be treated, including wrinkled skin above the knees, sagging post-pregnancy skin on the stomach, and loose eyelid skin. Wherever you have skin that is loose, thin and crêpe-like, Thermage® is an option.

We love Thermage® because it is so client-friendly. For clients who are afraid of a surgical facelift or simply do not want to pay for it, Thermage® is a solution which will provide a subtle and natural-looking tightening effect. Renew Dermatology is the only provider of Thermage in the Richmond area with the latest platform which uses comfort pulse technology. There is no pain during the treatment, no peeling, no downtime, and it only takes one treatment to get results that can last up to 3 - 5 years, provided you protect your skin from the sun and follow a good home-care routine.

We invite you to schedule a complimentary consultation to discuss your goals and decide if the Vbeam®, Sclerotherapy or Thermage® are the best treatment options for you!
